This side event by CUTS during the 8th WTO Ministerial Conference presented the key findings of five studies on issues related to equitable agricultural development in the EAC and aimed to outline a roadmap to deal with the impact of climate change on food security in the EAC through trade. CUTS International Geneva's new project entitled " Promoting Agriculture-Climate-Trade linkages in the EAC " (PACT EAC) was also presented.

On the eve of the beginning of the eighth Ministerial Conference of the WTO, CUTS International Geneva organized a cocktail reception at the World Meteorological Organization to Launch its new publication entitled "Reflections from the Frontline: Developing Country Negotiators in the WTO". Mr Rob Davies, Trade & Industry Minister of South Africa and Dr H. V. Singh, Deputy Director General of the WTO along with Mr Pradeep S Mehta, Secretary General, CUTS, Dr Matthes Buhbe, Resident Director, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Geneva and Mr R. Badrinath, Director, CUTS, Geneva spoke during this event were the trade and development community was gathered.

CUTS in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) organized a National Dialogue on October 18, 2011 at the ESRF Conference Hall bringing the key stakeholders from the Government, Private Sector, Business Community, Civil Society Organizations, academia, and media for open discussion and validation of the findings generated by the research studies.

The Kenya National Dialogue was held on October 17, 2011 in Nairobi a part of a series of meetings being held in the East African region under the ongoing FEAD project by CUTS Geneva in collaboration with CUTS Nairobi. In attendance were 25 participants from the agricultural sector, farmers associations, agricultural research institutes, private sector, civil society, government ministries, and CUTS staff.

On Thursday, the 22nd of September 2011, CUTS International, Geneva organized a Symposium on Trade in Primary Product Markets and Competition Policy in the Centre William Rappard, Geneva. The Symposium witnessed a high-level participation of over 20 experts in trade and competition issues from different parts of the world representing multilateral institutions, governments, academic community and civil society. The aim was to enhance understanding about the existing challenges in the functioning of primary product markets so as to evolve a comprehensive economic governance regime to address anti-competitive behaviour and other related concerns.

CUTS GRC staff presented the content of its recently launched publication entitled "Agriculture in Development of Select African Countries: Linkages with Trade, Productivity, Livelihood and Food Security". The focus of the publication is broadly on the positive interlinkages between trade and agricultural development in the five project countries; landlocked status and trade facilitation in the three landlocked countries (Malawi, Uganda and Zambia), and regional trade and food security in Kenya and Tanzania.

CUTS International, Geneva and the World Bank organized a Cocktail reception at the Centre William Rappard (WTO) on Tuesday 19 July 2011 to present their new publications. The book released by CUTS International titles "The Doha Round & South Asia: Need for Better Coordination", and explores the commonalities and differences of South Asian countries' interests in some major areas of Doha Round negotiations. Dr. Harsha V. Singh, Deputy-Director General WTO, formally launched the publications.

"Making the transition to a green economy fair and equitable" was one of the two major subjects of the UNCTAD Public Symposium in 2011, which was also the year of the IV UN Conference on LDCs. The Symposium provided a good opportunity to combine these two elements by analyzing the then adopted Plan of Action of LDC-IV in the context of transition to green economy and the specific LDC needs and interests. Accordingly, CUTS Geneva Resource Centre, FES Geneva Office (and UNCTAD-tbc) organized a breakout session entitled "Green Transition and Poverty Alleviation in LDCs: Taking Stock of LDC-IV" during the Public Symposium on 23 June 2011.
May 11, 2011 • Istanbul, Turkey | LDC IV Conference in Istanbul
CUTS organized a panel discussion at the Civil Society Forum at the UN LDC IV in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat. The panel discussed the theme "From Istanbul to 2020: Vision for LDCs" and included eminent speakers from the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, and CUTS.
