Taking East African Regional Integartion Forward

CUTS Geneva Resource Centre, with the help of CUTS Africa Resource Centre, Nairobi and other BIEAC partners in the EAC region organised the Final BIEAC Regional Workshop at Arusha, Tanzania on 2 November 2010. The Conference discussed a Synthesis Paper prepared based on the thirteen research studies undertaken in the project, and came up with five areas of work beyond the BIEAC project. The represented East African Civil Society Organisations also decided to constitute themselves into an East African Civil Society network on Economic Issues (EACSONEI).

FEATS National Dialogues 2010

Oct. 4-21, 2010 • Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), Dar-Es-Salaam (Tanzania), Lusaka (Zambia), Lilongwe (Malawi) | FEATS Project

CUTS GRC organized the second set of FEATS National Dialogues in project countries in October 2010. The Dialogues were held in collaboration with the local partners with the following objectives: (i) To present the final drafts of second phase country research studies on issues related agriculture, trade and development for discussion and validation; (ii) to consolidate the networks established, particularly the FEATS country National Reference Groups (NRGs); and (iii) to contribute to advocacy and broader dissemination of key messages and recommendations emerging from FEATS research.

Writers' Workshop: Reflections from the Frontline – Developing Countries Negotiators in the WTO

CUTS GRC, in collaboration with FES Geneva Office organized a Writers' Conference at CUTS GRC Conference Room on 14 September 2010 under its project to prepare and publish a Negotiators' Handbook on the WTO negotiations. Workshop was attended by twelve chapter contributors who are either serving or former developing countries' WTO negotiators including ambassadors.

Book Launch: "Towards More Inclusive Trade Policy Making: Process and Roles of Stakeholders in Select African Countries"

Centre for Socio-Eco-Nomic Development (CSEND) and CUTS Geneva Resource Centre organized a book vernissage and thematic workshop focusing on inter-ministerial coordination and stakeholder consultation for trade policy making based on their recent research publications. The vernissage took place in the WTO on 19 July 2010.

Is There a Role for the LDCs in Re-Shaping Global Economic Governance?

At the UNCTAD Public Symposium 2010, CUTS International in collaboration with UNCTAD hosted a breakout session on the role of LDCS in reshaping global economic governance. Mr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Special Adviser to the Secretary General of UNCTAD on LDC Issues moderated the session. Issues addressed included the evolving international trade regime and how it will play out for LDCs; the ODA regime and international financial architecture including resource transfer to LDCs; and the current debates on climate change and access to technology.
